Her family held funeral services in Massachusetts this past Tuesday. In an effort to pay tribute to this wonderfully talented human being here in New York, we are arranging a memorial service for family, friends, and colleagues after the new year in early January. I remember her with affection and a great deal of respect. She was a very talented, creative individual as seen by her many contributions to the architecture of what is now Neufreistadt. After the parting of the ways Kendra continued to create and be innovative and nurturing in Port Neualtenburg; I am sure there are many there who will miss her guidance and mentoring."

[15:32] Cristiano Midnight: Kendra was always incredibly supportive of me - I'm a very private person in spite of being a relatively public figure in SL. I was able to confide in her and she never betrayed those confidences, and helped me through a lot of things just by listening.
[15:33] Cristiano Midnight: Like others, I had hoped she would eventually return to posting regularly on SLU, and I was saddened by her struggles the past year. I wish I had one more chance to tell her how much I loved her, how much we all did. I hope that she knew.
[15:34] Cristiano Midnight: She was a rockstar among us, and I feel very lucky to have had her in my life. I've spent the past 24 hours taking stock of my own life, and examining my own contributions and what I would leave behind. If I am able to touch the lives of only a fraction of those Kendra has, I will feel blest.

[15:51] Jaeger Edelweiss: Her vision has shaped my own creative pursuits here in Second Life and was inspirational to the foundation of Sternberg, Neualtenburg’s only colony.
[15:52] Jaeger Edelweiss: It was during her time in Port Neualtenburg I was so very privileged to be her friend and honoured to be right hand man.
[15:52] Jaeger Edelweiss: To me Kendra was like an older sister, an Aunt and at times even a mother.
[15:52] Jaeger Edelweiss: She always knew exactly what to say and offer guidance and support whenever it was needed.
[15:53] Jaeger Edelweiss: She once spoke to me of her sadness at having not had any children of her own, and I think we all were touched by her natural maternal side.
[15:53] Jaeger Edelweiss: Many of you like me feel as though you are one of her surrogate sons or daughters, and I know she will remain immortal in each of us.

[15:56] Aliasi Stonebender: I joined SL back in January of 2005. Just randomly looking out over the audience, I see a few different dates - but that can be a lie these days, thanks to alts. That said, if you weren't there, you might not understand how Second Life felt like a small town then.

[15:57] Aliasi Stonebender: It was the last days of that, now there's a million communities - and this is a good thing. But it was something special then. I knew of Neualtenburg slightly from Thinkers meetings - which were almost always well-attended, then.

[15:57] Aura Linden: Average number of people online at the end of 2005 was just over 1000. There were less than 250,000 residents total. Perhaps 60,000 were active.
[15:57] Aliasi Stonebender: I jumped at the chance to join the project when it 'rebooted' into a private island, and that's when I first met Kendra.

[15:58] Aliasi Stonebender: Even though, today, most of the prims in this sim are created or owned by someone else, aside from a few in the castle, all of them still have her mark, the very city plan itself.

When Linden Labs allowed private groups to 'adopt' Infohubs, I procured the one in Anzere, the former home of Neualtenburg, for us to use. Kendra was quick to give me the original fachwerks, flags, barrels, everything she used in Neualtenburg. I still have most of it.
[16:01] Aliasi Stonebender: Even in the disagreement which lead to Neufreistadt and the CDS - and it seems like a damn petty thing these days - I thought of her as an opponent, never an enemy. I was glad when, this last Oktoberfest, she reconciled with us a bit.

[16:53] Rose Springvale: I knew Kendra only here, in this world we share. At first, i was nothing short of intimidated. Then as PIO of the CDS, i was asked to work with Kendra in 2007 on a collaborative Oktoberfest, A healing between her and the sim, i was told. That really helped the intimidation.
[16:53] Rose Springvale: I put on my red power suit and met her in Port Neualtenberg, where she literally took me under her wing. She handed over all sorts of things, from beer steins to the booths we use to make the festival a festival. She told me stories, and inspired me. Nothing scary at all. Well, maybe that hat.
[16:53] Rose Springvale: She asked to hold the opening ball, as it was her rl birthday. If i run another Oktoberfest, we'll name that ball for her.
[16:53] Rose Springvale: Then it seemed that she disappeared, so on the day last fall when her name showed up on my friends list, I, having lost all intimidation, pounced on her. She was in good spirits, ready to charge forward, and was even looking for a sim to recreate Port Neualtenberg.
[16:54] Rose Springvale: She really wanted to come back to Neufreistadt or Caledon. At the time there wasn't anything available here and she hadn't heard back from Desmond. Satir DeCuir and i had just finished our harbor project in Ischia, and asked if she had anything "nautical." (ha!) We gave her some space to get restarted. Her goods are there now, and will be as long as the Lindens allow.
[16:54] Rose Springvale: She wanted to come back to NFS though, and when i finally got hold of a fachwerk here, she was going to move in. When she saw the house, she said this to me:

Ha! That was my first location in Neualtenburg!

[16:54] Rose Springvale: It was Oktoberfest again though, and the first order of business was our market stalls, (she made the most authentic dirndls i've seen!)

[17:19] Aura Linden: .. I can't pretend I knew Kendra very well at all. I had seen her name on a few bug reports and messages from the forums but.. Really this is my failing. I've always been one of the more aloof Lindens.
[17:21] Aura Linden: I saw mention of her passing first in an animation group. It's funny. She and I had a lot in common. Outside LL, I do animation and I know a lot of people in that industry who knew her.
[17:22] Aura Linden: Also, though I've never mentioned it at the lab, I was one the the first trans* people that Linden Lab hired. I grew up in a time and place where one didn't speak of that sort of thing, so I can't help but deeply admire her courage and strength.

Although she once called for my impeachment and we certainly didn’t see eye to eye politically all that often, I am sure she did the things she did because of her deep and abiding concern for the community she helped begin. Kendra was a steadfast advocate for the “creative class” of Neualtenburg (she left before the name changes) including during her time as Guildmeisterin. She was always on the lookout for the next great thing to create. I’d like to think that her part in the creation of this community was perhaps her masterpiece, whether or not she would have thought so or said so. "

I am going to share something here. I am pretty sure I never posted this before.
A couple years ago my daughter had a tumor on her ovary. It grew in her fast and by the time we got her to San Francisco for treatment she looked like she was carrying a basketball in her stomach. At the same time a thread came up on SC and when someone (Muka maybe) found out Kendra was Meowth he asked for an autograph. "
[17:30] Jamie Palisades: "Graciously, Kendra agreed and I PM'd her to ask if she would send one to my daughter since she would be in the hospital a couple more weeks. Kendra said "what hospital and room?" When I told her she said "would your daugher like a phone call from Meowth?" I already knew Kendra but this was more then I could ever have hoped. When she called her my daughter cried. It was a major moment for her. She loved Pokemon and Meowth was one of her favorites. Kendra IMd me in world and said "Oh no, I think I upset her". I told her that I was on the phone with my wife and she had just given my daughter the biggest comfort she had during this very dark time for her. My daughter STILL tells friends about the day Meowth called her."
